Whales are the largest animals in the sea. We know that the largest animals on land are elephants . But compare to a whale,an elephant is a tiny creature. Whales are huge and heavy giants. The largest whale, the blue whale, grows about a hundred feet long, some of them weigh more than a hundred and twenty tones, while the normal weight of an elephant is not than seven tons. A whale eats two or three tones of food at a single meal.

  If whale eat so many tones of food at each meal. The blue whales live wholly on plankton. Plankton is spread over miles and miles of sea water.

  Smaller that the blue whale in size is the sperm whale. It grows to a length of about sixty feet. Inside the huge skull there are large space filled with a clear oil called " SPERMACETI", which is used in candles and cosmetics. It is from this 'SPERMACETI' that "sperm" whales get their name.

These giants of the sea eat not tiny plankton, but gigantic squids, which are themselves nearly thirty feet long. When these squids stretch their arms out, they are almost fifty feet long. The sperm whales are powerful drivers. They dive fifteen hundred feet deep in the sea and fight fierce battles with giant squid.

   But whales can not breathe under water. This is because water may get into their lungs and drown them.When these animals want to breathe., they come up to the surface of water,draw in a breath of air and go down again.

  Their lungs as well as stomach are as large as the rooms in our houses. In fact , a man can walk about inside a whale stomach.

  Whales are hunted because men can get various valuable product out of their bodies.

Under a whale's skin there is a kind of fat called "BLUBBER". This layer of BLUBBER is six to twelve inch thick, and it keeps the whale warm in the cold ocean water.And from this BLUBBER we get whale oil. Whale oil is used in making soap, margarine (artificial butter) and several other things.Whale bone and whale meat also bring large profit to the hunter. 

AMBERGRIS:- From the whale's stomach we get something called "AMBERGRIS" . AMBERGRIS is very valuable. It is used in manufacturing expensive perfumes. 

        

ORISSA:-INDIA'S BEST STATE

Orissa is India's 9th largest state in area and 11th in population. It was recognised as a seperate province in 1936. This state lies on the eastern coast of india. It is bounded by West Bengal on the north-east ,Bihar on the north, Andhra Pradesh on the south-east,Madhya pradesh on the west and Bay of Bengal on the east. The state i drained by three great rivers, The MAHANADI, THE BRANMANI and THE BAITARNI and some lesser rivers all of which flow into the Bay of Bengal. The biggest and the most famous lake in Orissa is the CHILKA lake . The land of great history, Emperor Ashoka(273-232 B.C) won the kalinga war over here, avictory which turned the great ruler away from the spoils of conquest toward compassionate teachings of Lord Buddha.
Orissa today is a kaleidoscope of past splendours and contemporary expression,it is India in essence, right down to her roots, Blessed with the natures bounty, with fertile plains blur mountains, beautiful beaches,mighty rivers with magnificent waterfalls. The Sun temple at Konarak , north of puri, is in itself reason enough for a trip of india . Like that Taj Mahal at Agra or the Kailash temple at Ellora, Konarak turns away adjective into a tired cliche.
But Orissa has more . Puri's famed shrine Lord Jagannath's temple is one of india's holiest place-  "Chaar Dham" and many more ancient Hindu and Jain temples. Great traditional dance and music, handicrafts, temple architecture and sculpture, the colourful hospitable people and above all the excitement of modern Indias's technological achievements in the form of Hirakund Dam and Raurkela steel plant, are the part of Orissa's resplendent blend of past and present. Chandipur -at-sea, the missile testing range is also situated in Orissa.
